The lad is quickly seeing that the shipping company is all about business.......whereas the church is more embracing of him and his delicate feelings. He wanted extra help for several families, so Walter wrote him to see if he would be willing to accept a huge shipment and administer to it that it be distributed to worthy people.

I need to know one thing, can you handle being in charge of this project on the ground in Nigeria or am I tasking you with too great an undertaking? There is no wrong answer but i don't want to dump a huge administrative challenge on you if you are not comfortable. If you are able to handle this, we are going to bring in the new year in style for many many families! I feel it, God is using us to do His work.

It was such a joyous response that the lad does not feel imposed upon........he is up to the challenge.

Yes I can handle this as it it part of God's work and I will be able to distribute the items to the family and then to other people. You may put the items for the family and identy them with a tag or inscription then every other things to other people as many as the items may be. You can look at the list of items I previously sent for the family and use it to buy more things from the list for the other people.

With a large parcel being prepared, it might prove to be a nice carrot on a stick for the lad if, perhaps, the original package were to get delayed or stolen or some unfortunate event cause it go missing. He might forsake a package designated for one person, but will he walk away from one intended to be shared by 5 families????

Either way, his New Year will be starting off in an exciting manner.

I am going to be frank with you. I am not sure if you are being serious, or are just waisting my time? It might be language barrier. English might not be your first language. Anyway, I will not submit the photo's you sent me for processing for the following reasons.

The instructions specifically call for 8 pictures to be submitted, you submitted 11
Position 3 and 4 seem to be missing
you submitted positions that are not mentioned in the instructions
there is terrible lightbleed/overexposure, which causes massive desaturation of the pictures

Again, I am unsure why you can't comply with the simple instructions you have been provided. The instructions even come with example pictures, so providing a compliant set of pictures is as easy as copying the example positions. I fail to see why any that is being serious would not be able to comply, let alone fail twice.

Before we go further, please confirm to me that you are taking this seriously. Your parcel is not the only one that is in our care, and we have other customers that require out attention. I would appreciate it if you would stop waisting my time.

You are wrong by saying i am wasting your time i am waiting for the parcel so I can travel. I have taken pictures base on the pictures you sent and if maybe I missed a particular position let me know so I can take the position picture and send to you immediately. Look at the picture position 3 you sent it shows only 1 hand and this confuses me to send a clear picture example of the position 3 so I can take it and send

I do not have the time, nor the will to hold your hand and navigate you through an extremely easy process. Thousands of people have done it before you without any problem, so I don't see why it would not be possible for you. Please re-read the instructions carefully.

The Nigerian lad and the Ukrainian refugee are one and the same. The lad has messed up speaking about things his other characters have said, but we let those mistakes pass without comment. The church wrote to the refugee asking if they thought the Nigerian could handle a huge, multifamily shipment, and the answer was of course, yes.
As you can see, the lad is having issues with PLOG, but we are confident he will work those details thru, esp. when you know how helpful the shipping department customer service is. He will end up chasing his tail in the end, but his greed will hopefully keep him engaged while he waits for the super package to arrive.
The problem with the super package is that it will be several boxes and he will need help........all of whom must be vetted thru i.d. or biometrics. A simple yet precise procedure.

As for your concern: I assume you can imagine that the christmas period is an extremely busy period for the logistics sector. Our company is not an exception. This means that I have to distribute my available time as efficiently as possible.

Mr. Ladface was unable to comply with our regular Identification requirements, and you have agreed to accept the Biometric Identification as a replacement. Mr. Ladface was given clear and easy to understand instructions for making his Biometric Pictures. The instructions even come with example pictures, so it should be clear to even the most mentally challenged individuals what is required. So far, mr. Ladface has failed twice to submit a set of pictures that meet the requirements. For your information: thousands of people have sumbitted their Biometric Information to us without any problems so far.

I simply do not have time to take mr Ladface by the hand and guide him through every step of the process. The information brochure he received should be all the information he needs. I must confess that the inability (or unwillingness) to comply had made me doubt the intentions of mr. Ladface. However, when I expressed my concerns to him, he quite emphatically denied any wrongdoing, and stated he was committed to receiving the parcel. As mr. Ladface was willing to sign the Covenant of Receipt, Delivery, and Forfeiture (which you might remember from your days with our company) I am now convinced that mr. Ladface is of good will.

As a courtesy to you and the Church, I will contact mr. Ladface later today and try to help him comply with the requirements. However, I trust that you understand that I will not be able to assist any further, should this third attempt be a failure.

I am still quite unsure why you keep failing to understand even the most simple of instructions. However, as mr. Donovan has asked me to assist, I will.

If you peruse the provided brochure, you will notice the following instructions:

The positions are
#1) With raised arms, horizontally besides the shoulder and feet close to each other 
#2) With hands high above the shoulders and legs apart    

Please notice the use of the plural (armS, feet, handS, shoulderS, legS). Someone with a basic comprehensive of english should be able to surmise that the positions being described require BOTH arms to be in the same position at the same time. This should also have been clear to you by looking at the supplied image of the Vitruvian Man.

I am assuming you will be able to supply us with a complying set of Biometrics with this information. If not, we will invoke article III of the Covenant.

The lad is grateful for Walter's intervention. First the Ukranian refugee wrote thanking Walter for advocating on their behalf. If anything, it solidifies the growing bond between Walter and the receiver. It is the evil shipping company holding this up.

The lad complied with his instructions for the photos, surely third time is a charm?

If anything goes wrong with the shipment, the lad will gravitate toward the church and Walter, who will advocate extensively on their behalf. After all, as a retired PLOG employee, Walter knows the inner workings better than most. His wise counsel might be useful in the days to come.

The poor lad does not know as yet that he has failed on his third attempt, and with his signing of the paperwork, has forfeited the package. Walter had written to the group, the refugee, the package receiver and the PLOG agent, asking for dedication to making this work.

I am certain between us all we can achieve so much. What we need here is clarity and a unanimity of purpose. With God's good grace, we will achieve that and more.

Sadly, the lad failed again to comply, though he does not yet know it. He and the refugee wrote to Walter in hopes of a resolution.

This morning brought the awful news that Mr Ladface failed his third attempt at biometrics, and he not only failed he received a report as to why. The PLOG manager wrote in part:

Frankly, I am baffled. In my 18 years with this company, I have never seen anyone fail to submit a set of pictures that were not compliant, let alone fail three times.
As stated before, my time is limited, and I can't justify spending any more time in guiding Mr. Ladface through the process.

Walter was shocked and angry. He wrote back demanding action.

I sat down with my morning coffee to see what events happened while I slept and read this appalling news. I even called my wife in to read it and tell me if it says what I think it does, and she confirmed my worst fears.
The failure of Mr Ladface might be his fault, but where is the remedial advice, the assistance he clearly needed to make good on this? And the fact you forced him to sign a release document that he cannot claim the package? Really? Mr Ladface is not the most clever or intelligent person I've ever known. But he is a human being and his limited mental capacity cannot be held against him.
As a former P-LOG employee, Mr Fletcher, I am asking for the contact information of your immediate supervisor. Your poor treatment of a decent and honest man will not stand. You will not take advantage of a mentally challenged person and treat him with disdain!

Please forward the supervisor's details to me so I can clear up this mess that YOU created. You should be ashamed of yourself.

And of course it is fun to write, copying the lad so he has to read it, that he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer........

It seems the lad failed his last attempt at biometric identification. Sadly, he signed the agreement that if he fails, then Mr C. from PLOG gets the package.
Walter went to bat for the people yesterday, going over Mr. F's head to Chris B. writing in part:

I recognise he is no Einstein, but he is no fool. He is a human being and whatever his mental limitations in understanding biometrics, he deserves to be treated with dignity, respect and care by the company. Mr Fletcher has insulted him rather than assist.

These slightly backhanded comments are always fun with lads!

Today, the refugee wrote as follows:

I thank you so much for your timely intervention. Reading what you stated it looks as if the shipper intentionally want hope to hold the parckage since he treathens Mr Ladface that he will forfeit the parckage which is bad, I think he is putting Mr Ladface under pressure. I like your standing up to condemn that . Meanwhile I got email from Mr Ladface that he is going to the government agency to work on getting ID card which will have his address and I believe this will be better so that he will send to the shipper so they can deliver the package immediately. I really feel for Mr Ladface what is going through and I pray God will bless him.

This is what we want, to create a deeper bond between the lad and Walter and the church, and have PLOG play the heavy in this matter.

I also think, and this is just between us, that the form Mr Ladface signed to forfeit the package, might be the reason why he did not receive any assistance from Mr. F. I think he wanted him to fail. I cannot prove that, but I strongly suspect it.
Regardless, I have some favours owed to me from my time with the company, and I will not let Fletcher take the package. I have always been amazed at the corruption of government and business in Africa, so I'm not surprised C has some of this poison in his soul now.

We will get thru this together!

Just to plant a seed for future harvest, Walter notes the widespread corruption of officials in Africa. It might serve us well to establish that fact at this stage just in case we need to exploit that angle.

So the lad was anticipating his delivery and all was going well. However, as luck would have it, the driver stopped at a roadside diner for lunch, talked a little too loudly and was befriended by someone of ill intent. Once he was back on the road, he was squeezed in traffic by some other vehicles and forced to the side of the road. There he was beaten and the contents of the delivery van stolen. Worse, the gps tracker devices were removed too.
The lad is very upset but PLOG is stepping up and offering compensation for all this. The lad just has to fill in a multi-page compensation form in excruciating detail.
We all have high hopes of a happy ending here........what could possibly go wrong now?

The lad is under the impression he must print his forms and then mail them. But he has no printer, it is broken so he says he is having someone come fix it. I figure he must pay someone to print each page.......but whatever, it is costing him.

When he refers to an engineer, it is his computer assistant.

Our package recipient is feeling the heavy weight of responsibility in this matter.

I spent a lot of time and days with money when I was going from one city to another looking for the santa outfit and the costs of getting it,but you can suggest how we can figure it out. Am only praying that printer can be fixed so I can print and fill the forms so it does look as if am the one delaying the compensation of the lost package.

Because he lied, twice, about things, he was forced to rent a Santa suit and it cost him money, which is a good thing. Now he has computer/printer issues to pay for. But he ends with the note that he is the one holding up compensation. It is good to see that he knows he is the problem here, and as always, it is his fault.

He asked Walter for some clarification and little pep talk as he is feeling overwhelmed. Walter wrote back, in part:

In the background much has been going on.......the good thing is the PLOG driver was released from hospital. The lad seemed more focused on the package than the welfare of the driver, but that was to be expected and was the source of chastising from the church for being selfish.
The lad has finally submitted his paperwork and claims for other expenses for the compensation. He was disappointed to read that compensation will be paid to the sender, not the receiver, even though the sender agrees to forward any funds received.
The lad is greedy though.....this missing package was intended for a Ukrainian refugee, then he wanted a local (Lagos) family who was "burned out" to receive funding, then a group of families, and now he has added his own to the list. He was disappointed that the church said no to the last request.

Now we are waiting for PLOG to handle the compensation claim as we prep the multipackage shipment to Lagos. We found out that the PLOG manager who is handling the matter had a recent outbreak of herpes which has slowed the process.....................

The lad is getting more and more greedy. He has asked for thousands to cover his wife's medical bills, and now has asked for the church to send money to buy a used Toyota mini van to drive people to his own church. One must give him points for trying.
We are still waiting for PLOG to issue compensation to the lad which will be tucked into the second shipment of multiple packages which is about to go overseas. Word on the street is that there are corrupt border guards who are demanding bribes to allow parcels thru........

The lad has been patiently (???) waiting for resolution as the compensation process unfolds at a painfully slow pace. But the church has bumped up its charity level a couple of notches to make it up to the lad. He is becoming more and more demanding and more rude by the day. His frustration levels are increasing......it's a wonderful thing to watch!
New packages are now underway to him via a premiere shipping company and we do not expect any issues between Canada and Nigeria. What could possibly go wrong now?

Last year you asked me if I could be representing your church and for a mission to be here. I think we can start discussing about it as I can also be working with your church for a mission in Nigeria. Am ready to work for your church as unto God if your church will establish a mission here.

The lad is now fully convinced to join the church since he has learned he can get an annual salary, and the equipment or funds to operate the church office with money for part time secretarial assistance. His salary will be based on the number of faithful he can bring into the fold. The most amazing thing is he wants to perform rituals to prove his worth. It is tempting to move quickly and push for these things but we need to keep him on the hook with a slower and ultimately more painful approach. Rituals such as anointing his faithful flock, re-creating Christ carrying the cross, building a monument of prayer. He is a complainer but seems compliant.
